M52tu engine
Remember Me? BMW Models. M52TU, what models share same motor?
Post a Comment. M52TU is basically a variation of BMW M52 engine family, meaning it is still an inline 6 DOHC 24v with aluminium block with the exception for North American models that used iron block instead thanks to their high-sulphur fuel. Theoretically, this further improves performance and efficiency over the M It adds a butterfly valve inside the intake manifold that opens and closes to create a dynamic effect of long and short manifold for better cylinder filling over wider rev and load range. In conjunction with Dual VANOS, it should theoretically aid the engine in delivering the potent performance and efficiency that improves on what the M52 is capable of. Lets take a look at the performance curve below:. It turns out it doesn't make much difference peak torque-wise.

I'm about to change the vanos so I was confirming my engine model using my vin. Now, my vin says I have an M I know of the M54 and the M52 but not the M I googled around a bit but there's no record of this I could find. After using a vin checking website, it turns out I have the M52tu. The M52 but with the dual vanos. But my vin doesn't match the typical M52tu vins. Does anyone have any info on this, or has my car invented it's own engine? Also, I see a lot of e46 s around as well as s, but I've never seen another I understand this was only made for 2 years. Out of interest is a well maintained worth more due to it's rarity?

It was released in the E53 X5 [1] and is the replacement for the M52 engine. From to , the M54 was included on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list. Compared with the final versions of its M52 predecessor called the 'M52TU' , the M54 has a non-return fuel system, a fully electronic throttle without mechanical backup , [1] [2] Siemens MS 43 engine management , [3] and a revised intake manifold. As per the M52TU, the M54 uses an aluminium block and aluminium cylinder head with cast iron cylinder liners. Variable valve timing is fitted to both camshafts [5] called " double-VANOS " , a dual length intake manifold called "DISA" is used and the thermostat is electronically controlled. The redline remains at 6, rpm.

And not likely to happen in my opinion. The actual engines are near enough identical and interchange - the 2. DISA valve is different for both engines, too. But my vin doesn't match the typical M52tu vins. And a CCV replacement usu casue of oil consumption oddities is easy, as are vac leaks to fix the other common cause of modest irritations in throttle response - and it's still an utterly lovely engine to drive. Lovely engine, choked to hp because of German tax banding at the time but it doesn't have the bad oil scraper piston rings they gave the M54 and mine didn't use a drop of oil between services. A 2, cc cu in version introduced in I believe that the the iron blocks were fitted to the North American market cars, because of the high sulphur fuel issues. Subscribe to: Post Comments Atom.
