Sony's Gran Turismo series for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 has long declared itself "the real driving simulator. Here we are, three years later, and the fourth entry in the GT series is set to storm American shores next week. With the launch date looming, we had to check out the Logitech Driving Force Pro, a PS2-only wheel purposefully built to make your Gran Turismo experience as realistic and enjoyable as possible. The Logitech Driving Force Pro contains all of the components you might expect from a PS2-specific racing wheel: USB port connection, a dual-clamping system for securely fastening the steering unit to a desk or table, eight PS2-specific buttons circle, square, cross, and triangle, as well as L1, L2, R1, and R2 , and gas and brake pedals perched on a solidly constructed no-slip floorboard. Real racing nuts will salivate over some of the special features built into the wheel that really set it apart, such as the degree wheel rotation for supported games , a choice between wheel-mounted paddles and a sequential stick shifter for changing gears, and force feedback for supported games. The wheel automatically calibrated itself throughout its or degree rotation, and we were all set to go. Provided you have a desk, table, or chair to which you can attach the wheel, the two clamping screws securely fasten the Driving Force Pro and open wide enough to accommodate a nice variety of surface widths. The only drawback here is the lack of a built-in lap-attachment option though it should be noted that Logitech does offer a separately sold attachment. Unless you have such an attachment, you might have to experiment with the height of the table or desk you attach the wheel to in order to attain that ideal setup for living-room driving. The solid rubber wheel is both sturdy and well constructed and also provides an excellent surface for gripping.
They mention that the pedal setup is easy and the clamp system makes it very solid. Brief content visible, double tap to read full content. Reviews ethics statement.

The difference between careening into a hay bale or executing the perfect turn could be as simple as switching from your normal gamepad to the Logitech Driving Force. The ubiquitous square, X, triangle, circle, and directional pad present themselves, although you won't necessarily want to use the wheel for nondriving games. The buttons are convenient for navigating menus and using special functions on cars, such as nitro boosts and hand-brake maneuvers. Depending on how you drive, your hand might brush against some of these buttons, which could cause you to accidentally push them.

Customer reviews. The F1-style shifters behind the wheel are different as well. It's practically impossible to use otherwise. It is constructed very nice and is of very good quality. This ultra-realistic steering wheel uses force feedback technology to produce the most authentic driving experience. Better yet, you'll be literally fighting your car to stay in a straight line at such ludicrous speeds, as the Logitech Driving Force Pro's force feedback perfectly captures each lateral push and bounce, rocking the wheel violently from side to side. By Chris Roper. Rated: Everyone. With degrees of wheel rotation and a rack and pinion steering system, the Driving Force Pro duplicates the true-to-life steering dynamics of race cars. This wheel would never sync to my son's PS3. As you approach top speed, your car will begin to lose adhesion on the road, and you'll watch as your car, responding to small undulations on the road, skips laterally across the pavement as if dancing on ice. I works pretty good like that.

The Driving Force Pro was originally intended to launch day and date with the game, just like the GT Force and GT3 did, but unfortunately Gran Turismo 4 was delayed for some time so Logitech finally decided to just go ahead and the wheel.
It works on all the racing games that customers have, and allows them to use their actual driving skill in the game. While the list of games supported by the wheel is extensive and reaches far into the PS2 back catalog of racers, a smaller number of those games support force feedback and only a handful support the wheel-specific degree rotation features. You may need to force it when navigating a series of tight chicanes. It is responsive and fairly easy to get the hang of The looks of this wheel is the first thing that let you realize that you made a good purchase, it looks really cool, and feels comfortable in every way. And status indicator lights tell you when wheel is powered up and calibrated, and also when the wheel is in or Degree Steering mode. Select and start buttons are also conveniently located on the wheel front. Now, the Driving Force Pro is actually capable of more power than older wheels. Second, no PS button, meaning I have to have the SixAxis controller nearby for exiting the game, etc. The Driving Force Pro was originally intended to launch day and date with the game, just like the GT Force and GT3 did, but unfortunately Gran Turismo 4 was delayed for some time so Logitech finally decided to just go ahead and the wheel. All other controls are present and well-designed Reviews with images. It feels better in your hand and all the controls that are on the controllers are there The force feedback accurately translates all of the information from the road through to the wheel and makes for a more all-encompassing experience.
