My own union certainly doesn't want it known. In April , while working on a job out of UA Local , Edmonton, I asked my foreman to provide me with a task for the day, necessary tools, and safety equipment. The foreman, general foreman, and job steward, all UA Local members, all assumed that I "was using safety as an excuse to avoid work". Within minutes, with no justification whatsoever, the general foreman accused me of "playing games" and fired me. This was the third time a "union brother" had unlawfully terminated my employment in less than 3 years! The next day, the local union business manager sent my travel card to my home local, miles away. Since April , my 'union brothers' have continued to illegally deprived me of my right to work, my right to fair representation, and my right to transfer my membership. In March , after completing an month investigation, Alberta Workplace Health and Safety WHS found my union and former employer in violation of Section 36 of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act , and ordered the union to restore all my membership rights, including my right to return to work. WHS also ordered my former employer to pay me for 14 weeks lost income. Their appeals were completed in January , and the Council will issue its decision any day now.
