Levi had knocked on the door of year-old mum Nichola Leighton, asking to see her year-old son Tyreese Ulysses who had recently moved to Catford. Leighton was furious and called police to say she would 'batter' the boys if they returned. But rather than wait for officers to arrive, she called her son in a 'red mist' and rounded him up with his friends before driving them in her red Suzuki 4x4 to Hazel Grove. Here the boys jumped out the car, verbally buoyed on by Leighton, and chased Levi down the alleyway, stabbing him in just 30 seconds before fleeing. The group escaped in Leighton's car, and she later gave a misleading witness statement to a police officer to hide the group's tracks. After a trial at the Old Bailey, Leighton was convicted of murder and jailed for 23 years, while her son Ulysses was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 13 years. Alexander Sprules, 17, who had his child anonymity lifted, and a year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were also both unanimously convicted of murder and jailed for 20 years and 16 years respectively. The trial heard how there were gang associations on both sides, with the attackers associated with the LDG gang in Sydenham, and Levi part of the Block 6 gang in Sydenham.
