Windows operating systems automatically apply a generic driver that allows users to benefit from basic touch functions; however, advanced features will not be available until the lenovo pointing device files are installed. When enabled by required software, the touchpad component is recognized by computers and all developed features are made accessible.
Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. I downloaded a new touchpad driver from the Lenovo support website. It said it was for Synaptics, Elan, Alps. I clicked to install, and it looked like it was going to install Synaptics, which is what I want; but the text was cut off so I wasn't sure. No choice was made available. I've checked around on this site, especially the suggested questions that appeared as I typed this question, and tried going to the device manager and picking a driver to update.

A pointing stick or trackpoint , also referred to generically as a nub or nipple is a small analog stick used as a pointing device typically mounted centrally in a computer keyboard. Like other pointing devices such as mice , touchpads or trackballs , operating system software translates manipulation of the device into movements of the pointer on the computer screen. Unlike other pointing devices, it reacts to sustained force or strain rather than to gross movement, so it is called an "isometric" [1] pointing device. IBM introduced it commercially in on its laptops under the name "TrackPoint", and patented an improved version of it in but the patent expired in The pointing stick senses applied force by using two pairs of resistive strain gauges. A pointing stick can be used by pushing with the fingers in the general direction the user wants the pointer to move. The velocity of the pointer depends on the applied force so increasing pressure causes faster movement. The relation between pressure and pointer speed can be adjusted, just as mouse speed is adjusted. The mouse buttons can be operated right-handed or left-handed due to their placement below the keyboard along the centerline. Pointing sticks typically have a replaceable rubber cap, called a nub, which can be a slightly rough "eraser head" material or another shape.

Your computer supports the lock on leave function with ultrasound-based human presence detection. The computer display will first dim and then lock when it senses you have walked away. This provides added security and improves battery life. The fingerprint reader is integrated with the power button. After enrolling your fingerprint, you can power on and log in to the computer with a simple press on the power button, or unlock the screen with a single touch. It eliminates the need to enter complex passwords, saving your time and boosting your productivity. The TrackPoint pointing device enables you to perform all the functions of a traditional mouse, such as pointing, clicking, and scrolling. Your computer might be preinstalled with Glance by Mirametrix. Glance can capture your head movement through camera and makes your computer smarter and more efficient.

March 11, Ask a new question. I was searching for information on reversing the direction of the touchpad scrolling. I came across information on a thread here about updating drivers. After doing so and restarting my computer, the touchpad stopped working completely. When I tried to go back and update the drivers again, the touchpad was completely missing from the Device Manager before doing so I attached a wireless mouse and am currently using that. That device is listed as the only device under 'mice and other pointing devices'. Was this reply helpful? Yes No.

Barrett; Robert S. If you wish to update to this version, know that it can enhance overall performance and stability, add different fixes for various touch problems, improve existing gestures, or even include support for new ones. If the user releases pressure at this point, the change will be interpreted as an instruction to move the opposite direction. Retrieved While typically employed on a computer keyboard, IBM included one on its Trackpoint Mouse product; suggested uses included scrolling as with a scroll wheel or a dual-cursor system. Another challenge with pointing stick design is identification of the zero position the position where no motion is desired. Asked 9 years, 1 month ago. A number of ergonomic studies to compare trackpoint and touchpad performance have been performed. A typical solution, which assumes that pointing sticks frequently go out of calibration, is to interpret a variation below a certain threshold over a given interval, perhaps one or several seconds as being a neutral stick. Gay Roger F. The Overflow Blog. Additional pressure again moves the pointer, but the calibration may occur again, requiring even more force. Various informal names have been invented, including "nub", [24] "clit mouse", which is an intercommunity term, usually seen on ThinkPad forums, and "nipple mouse".
