Repair guides and support for Lenovo's line of consumer-oriented laptops, the IdeaPad series, first announced January Posted: Feb 9, Hey guys I have a Lenovo Ideapad Had issues in the past where some keys would random stop working but would work fine in a while. Also once in a while some keys would press on itself and I had to also press random keys till i hit the one that is causing the issue. A couple of days ago it got worst. The random pressing would continue and persist that I am unable to get work done. Also I notice that when I press a key I would randomly press again later. Tried disabling the physical keyboard but it did not work. I had use Sharpkeys to map that specific keys to do nothing. Also when I am booting and its on the bios, it triggers edit boot options. I had to press backspace to stop it. Anything I can do to fix this? Do I have to replace the keyboard? I am thinking of disabling the laptop keyboard and used an external one but I havent been successful doing that.

Inside the BIOS, you can change many basic computer settings, like the boot order, system time and date, or enabled hardware components. Modern computers just boot too fast. Note that this will actually restart your computer.

We'll detail all these methods below and, if you need to get a new version of your firmware, see our tutorial on how to update your BIOS. When you first power-on a computer, it goes through a very quick POST power on self test. However, some computers go through POST so fast that they don't recognize input from the keyboard in time for you to a hit key. For those, skip to method 2 below. Most modern motherboards use the DEL key, but ultrabooks , gaming laptops and gaming PCs are less consistent. For example, hitting F2 might work on an Asus, but you'll need F10 on an Acer computer. If you don't know the hotkey for your computer, you can look and see if a message comes up during POST, telling you what key to press or you can try hitting one of the 12 function keys, the DEL key, the Enter key or the ESC key since it is always one of those.
