Kadir Has University is a research university, which aims to generate high quality research as well as students with competencies of highest standards by developing a new model of education that is application- and project-based. The Core Program, one of these models, aims to leave the traditional education style behind and to equip first year students with the creative and critical questioning skills they will need in all areas of society. As of , they also aim to train graduates who can work anywhere in the world with another education system they have created called New Education Model. Kadir Has University also provides financial and consultancy support to its students through organizations such as the Creative Industries Platform YEP. The university was founded by the Kadir Has Foundation , established by the late industrialist and philanthropist Kadir Has. The university's campus is located by the Golden Horn in Cibali, Fatih , the capital district of Istanbul , on the European side of the city. The building was originally a tobacco factory, erected in by the Istanbul-based Ottoman Armenian architect Hovsep Aznavur. It then fell in disrepair due to the lack of maintenance and eventually was abandoned. It wasn't until the late s when the Kadir Has Foundation came up with the idea to turn this desolated factory building into a university, taking a twenty-nine year lease from Tekel in After four years of restoration, the university was officially opened on 30 December

Kadir Has University is a private university in Istanbul, Turkey that was opened in It is named after an industrialist whose philanthropic foundation provided the funding for the university to be opened. It has a 35, square metre building which was once a factory for TEKEL, the state-operated tobacco firm. The restoration of the former factory, which took four years, received an award from European cultural heritage organisation Europa Nostra. There are five faculties at the university: engineering; science and humanities; economics and administrative sciences; communication and law and fine arts. There are also several vocational schools at the institution.
