By Matt Morrison. While most comics of the time were anthologies featuring several superheroes, justice society, they never interacted or joined forces until the Justice Society formed.

The Justice Society of America was a war-time group of super-heroes. Decades after the war, they reformed, happily taking the back seat to teams like the Justice League and Teen Titans , and focusing instead of maintaining and nurturing superhero legacy. With it, he intended on manipulating its power to dominate all of Europe. Roosevelt, pressured by Congress to maintain an isolationist stance, refused to openly involve the United States in England's war with Germany. Instead, he selected two "Mystery Men" from a top-secret dossier to use as civilian agents against Hitler's forces — the Flash and the Green Lantern. Summoning both men to a special office in Gotham City , Agent Smythe outlined the nature of their mission and told them to fly to McMurdie Castle in Scotland. McMurdie was the site of a special Nazi operation led by an officer named Major Streicher.

Their adventures have continued into the present day through legacy characters and an ongoing tradition of heroism held up through the eras. In the New 52 reboot, the Justice Society is revamped into a modernized version of the society known as Wonders of the World consisting of younger and more contemporary incarnations of the Societies' founding members. There are qualitative, psychological and deterministic differences between what it means to be a Society member, and what it means to be a League member. One is a group of friends; the other, a group of coworkers. What was the great crisis that brought the Justice Society of America together for the first time? Was it Vandal Savage? Per Degaton? The Ultra-Humanite?

The Justice Society of America has long been a core part of the animated and TV landscapes of DC, with their most well-known characters popping up time and time again, including in a very big way in DC's Stargirl series. So what does all of this actually mean for the sort of Shazam spin-off Black Adam? Well, let's just say this isn't exactly your grandad's Justice Society of America. The period yarns were all set in the Earth-2 continuity which allowed the series to reimagine the adventures of the Golden Age heroes without disrupting their current continuity while also opening up space to introduce fresh faces and new legacy characters like the godson of the Golden Age Atom, Albert Rothstein, a.
