The wife of Paige Doherty 's killer has returned to her native Poland despite standing by him in the run up to the trial. Kasia Karbowiak insisted John Leathem would be cleared of killing the year-old schoolgirl and frequently visited him in jail. But now the year-old has returned to her home village in Poland with her and Leathem's baby daughter, Erika. The year-old killer was jailed for 27 years on Wednesday October 12 after being found guilty of knifing 4ft 8in Paige more than 60 times at his deli in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. Locals have rallied around former student Kasia in the tiny village of Osno Lubuskie, near Poland's border with Germany. Many feel sorry for her, saying her life was ruined by marrying a man who ended up being a killer.

He struck a deal with prosecutors which saw him pleading guilty to two charges he faced in exchange for one being dropped. He admitted assaulting his wife and behaving in a threatening or abusive way towards the police officers who went to arrest him, while a charge of threatening his wife, banging on the door of the property and demanding entry was dropped.

A man is facing a life sentence for the "frenzied" knife murder of Clydebank teenager Paige Doherty. The year-old's body was found in a wooded area in the West Dunbartonshire town on 21 March. She had more than injuries and been stabbed 61 times. Paige was last seen entering a deli, owned by year-old John Leathem. He admitted her murder and claimed to have "panicked" after Paige threatened to report him for sexual assault after she applied for a job. At the High Court in Glasgow, judge Lady Rae deferred sentence on Leathem until next month and told the married father-of-two: "This was a savage, frenzied attack on a child.
