A MAJOR clothing and homeware chain will close two stores this spring in the latest blow on the high street. TKMaxx has confirmed the closure of one of its own stores and one Homesense location, while a third will be relocated. First up, Edinburgh's TK Maxx will be forced to close this month after the landlord pulled the lease. The store will close on Wednesday, March 1, meaning customers wishing to visit the brand will have to venture further out of the city to the Trafford Centre. Swansea will also lose its Homesense store currently located at Parc Fforestfach which be relocated by the end of March. The closures at TK Maxx and Homesense come as the chain is set to open stores in several new locations.

It comes as TK Maxx and Homesense shut stores across the country in yet another blow for the struggling UK high street. The Manchester Arndale branch will close on March 1. Workers have been offered new positions at nearby stores. Staff at the eight stores will be offered positions elsewhere in the business and there aren't expected to be any job losses as a result of the change. An Asda spokesperson said the scheme had been well-received by customers. The supermarket will use the lessons learnt during the partnership to inform its concessions strategy. Edinburgh 's Meadowbank TK Maxx will open its doors to customers for the final time on February 15 as the landlord pulls the lease. Homesense - a subsidiary of TK Maxx which sells homeware - will see shops in Manchester and Swansea close. The closures come amid more trouble for the UK high street as the economy narrowly avoids recession. TK Maxx has stores in the UK and hundreds more operating throughout Europe and owns 77 Homesense stores across the country.

TK Maxx bosses announced the closure of their Edinburgh Meadowbank shopping park location after the store faced problems renewing its lease with the landlord. Speaking to Edinburgh Live , the branch spokesperson said that all staff were hoping to be given roles at other TK Maxx and Homesense locations. Adding: "Our senior managers have been in store supporting the team. A spokesperson for Homesense also confirmed that all Macnhester-based staff will be offered roles at nearby stores amid the news that the Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre branch would close.
