Points and motions are important. They outline how topics are prioritized, the way resolutions are voted on and they facilitate the general flow of debate. They are a core aspect of MUN and without them, every committee session would be in complete disarray. The first thing to know is that in a committee all delegates will have a placard. You should raise your placard both to make a point or a motion and if you want to speak about a particular topic.

Each MUN Institute program spans one week: Residential students arrive on campus on Sunday and depart on Saturday, and Commuter students attend classes during the day from Monday to Friday. Each day is divided into a series of lessons and activities. Residential students have breakfast on campus at a dining hall. Practice speaking in a quick-paced debate exercise, and learn how to improve your speech structure and speaking style. Engage in a powerful class discussions about the topic, and share your opinion and reactions! Relax and grab some food with your friends in the university dining hall. Learn about Model United Nations procedure, and how to be an effective delegate. Practice all the skills you learned throughout the day in a real Model United Nations simulation. You are representing your assigned country, and now have to work with your class as a United Nations committee to solve a topic of international importance! Work with a small group of other students and your MUN Mentor to reflect on the day and receive honest and constructive feedback on what you have done well and how you can continue to improve. We are a group of students dedicated to championing the United Nations, its values and principles, and promoting the crucial actions that this unique organization operates to save lives, encourage peace and protect the environment. We practice Model United Nations debating, where we travel across Britain and the world to simulate debate in real United Nations councils and committees. During MUN conferences, students take the role of a country and represent their views on a particular topic within a UN simulation. Conferences are thus a good opportunity to practice your public speaking, team working and leadership skills! We aim to build an understanding of global challenges and governance amid youth that crosses borders of culture and nationality.
