In reality, shouts seem to lack a lot of depth in more complex gameplay. Thankfully modders from all over the world have created some amazing modifications to Skyrim which make shouts much more useful and give new reasons to explore them in battle. Some of the mods included in this list also add new shouts to the game for fun or additional goodies. Check Out This Mod. It radically changes the way shouts work and makes them look much more similar to how a dragon would shoot ice and fire out of their mouths. Talk about a real badass upgrade.

Despite the player's legendary status as Dragonborn, however, the game does a very poor job at making them feel as such during gameplay. Luckily, there are mods to fix that. Throughout Skyrim 's story, Bethesda tries very hard to convince the player that Dragon Shouts - and their coinciding philosophy, the Way of the Voice - are deep, nuanced skills that few creatures even Dragonborn can truly master. The problem is that the power of Skyrim's Dragonborn, the Thu'um , is not properly represented in anything but the game's story elements, despite the fact that it's a unique feature and core selling point. Skyrim 's dialogue, books, and world all suggest something deeper, but the gameplay only reflects this at the surface level by providing abilities that accentuate the series' core skills like swordplay and spellcasting. It hardly makes one feel like a Dragonborn, a legendary fighter with the soul and voice of a dragon. For instance, if the player wanted to roleplay as a student of the Way of the Voice - as they might in an RPG about using dragon shouts - they only have a limited number of ways to explore this in their character's build. There is very little room for growth in the shouting system, and it is much too easy to rely on Skyrim's bread-and-butter shouts, like Unrelenting Force , Slow Time, and Marked for Death no matter what the player's intended strategy is. Even talking to Arngeir, collecting all of the shouts, and meditating on them with Paarthurnax rewards players with relatively minor boosts that don't fundamentally change shouts. Thankfully, Skyrim 's modding community has created ways of alleviating this.

Dragons are naturally able to use dragon shouts, but very few people possess this capability. As the Dovahkiin Dragonborn , a mortal with the soul of a dragon, you were born with this power. You can use dragon shouts only after completing Dragon Rising in the Main Quest , from which point you can absorb a dragon's soul after slaying it. You can learn a total of 20 dragon shouts in the standard version of Skyrim, but that number can be increased to 27 dragon shouts by installing official add-ons. The Dawnguard add-on adds three new dragon shouts for players, while Dragonborn adds a total of four new dragon shouts. When you unlock the first word of a dragon shout, you will have access to its most basic version. Unlocking the shout's second and third words will allow for the use of a more powerful shout that will last longer, deal more damage, or have additional effects. However, certain shouts will have no effect at all unless all three words have been unlocked and are spoken at once.

Thunderchild is possibly the best mod for roleplaying a shout-based character because of how it allows the player to gradually improve their Thu'um by way of lore-friendly activities. The Dragon Aspect shout, with this mod, becomes a very powerful buff that will truly make you feel like a dragon when casting it. HanbeiKliesen 6 years ago 2 The Ultimate Player start unlocks them all so long as you complete Dragon Rising absorbing the dragon's soul immediatley makes all shouts usuable thats the only one I've noticed. This mod allows you to shout at them, ordering to unequip it to your will.
