Mavis, nee Hayes grew up with her six brothers and six sisters on a farm in Middle Street, Cleveland. Sundays for the children were spent tidying the gardens and any i grew up in the redlands jobs that needed attention. Her father was a carrier and transported produce to the markets in Brisbane. After leaving school, Mavis worked at the only Chemist shop in Cleveland until her marriage to Ken.

My Dad tells me when he was a kid they used to get milk at school and it used to come from that little corner store. My Grandpa built his house with his bare hands, it was a masterpiece. We grew strawberries in the backyard, and Macadamias, oh the memories of cracking Macadamias in the workshop vice!
