What is HyTran fluid. Welcome Guest, Log in or Register. Is this Automatic Transmission fluid or hydraulic oil or what? I am used to putting 90 wt oil in transmissions but understand here the hydraulic pump uses the same fluid. From the name am not sure what this is.

We recently had two 66's in our shop for repair. One had IH Hy Tran in it and the other had a cheaper farm store hydraulic oil. Not trying to start a debate again, but this is why we always run Hy Tran in our stuff. I did not take pictures of the inside of the rear end wish I had and only the screen and filter out of the cheap oil tractor. The screen out of the Hy Tran tractor was perfectly clean and the filter looked clean on the outside as well. The inside of the rear housing on the cheap oil was terribly grimy and had a thick sludge in the bottom. Owner claims he changes the filter once a year, tractor had all CaseIH filters. The other one was perfectly clean and looked beautiful inside. Owner said he couldn't remember when he last changed the hydraulic filter! Both tractors had the PTO's removed so we could clearly see in the housings. The Hy Tran tractor is a loader tractor that basically has a hard life and rarely sees the shed. The other doesn't loader, but does everything else.

IMO IF you change the rear oil anywhere near as what is recommended that high cost of Hy-tran these days is hard to swallow.

Thanks for any help. The correct fluid is IH Hy-Tran. Not sure which version they are up to now- ultraction maybe? Some run generic hydraulic transmission fluid, but be prepared to hear from the experts how wrong that is Seriously I currently have farm store oil in but plan on switching to bytes in this summer when I do my cummins swap. Been running the cheapest hytran we can find fromTractor Supply and never had a problem with it. Depends on what you are putting the oil in? A magnum transmission could easily cost over 10 grand to rebuild if something goes wrong. I never felt like it was worth taking a chance on saving a couple hundred bucks on oil. I've also put a few bearings in tractors that were using other brands.
