Going for the Gold — A look at the Gold series promotional releases. Starting in Mattel released the first of a series of Gold Edition cars. These were mostly available in countries outside of the United States. Each store did the give-away differently. Stores were given cases of these Gold Edition cars to give away to customers as they purchased a certain number of cars or sold at a premium price. It was done this way to offer a special car and not have to mail out cars to international buyers.

After purchasing 5 Hot Wheels cars and sending the receipt to Mattel before April 15 th , you were sent a special Quick n' Sik on a long card but this time without a Kar Keeper. After purchasing 5 Hot Wheels cars and sending the receipt to Mattel before May 8 th , you were sent a special Bullet Proof on a long card in The Netherlands the car was detached from its card and sent in an envelope. The promotion car is a special, Chrome Gold Bullet Proof. This color variation does not appear in the pre- mainline and is exclusive to the Mail In. This promotion car is a special, Matte Gold Pass'n Gasser. It also comes with a gold plastic traffic light.
