I decided since I got so much good information from this forum that I should give some back regarding an issue I just solved with my Accord LX 2. It has to do with the engine running poorly, a P code and a very poor choice of placement for a bad rag.

Last time I changed the oil and cleaned the vtc screens and it was good for 30k kms. So today, the code came back, idle is rough, car wants to surge forward because of the high idle. Usually I turn off the car and turn it back and the code will disappear and that's that. Well yesterday and today, it comes back within 2mins of driving. Only time s the car stalled was when shifting from R to D when parking. But it started back up, code was gone, but came back within 2mins. So checking back through my maintenance logs, the vtc actuator was changed 30k kms ago with a "ultra power" from RA.

So, it is likely that you are wondering what the problem is if your mechanic has pulled code P from your car. In the case of a Honda Accord, diagnostic code P means the variable valve timing control advance is malfunctioning. The error code you receive sounds pretty severe, so what should you do if you see it? Controlling the intake camshaft phase is done through the variable valve timing control system VTC. The valve timing can be optimized based on driving conditions using oil pressure to operate the VTC actuator.

We recommend Torque Pro. How much each valve will be opened is determined by the camshaft and the profile of its lobes. So, when designing the engine, the manufacturers must choose between the lowdown torque or the power output at high engine speeds. This is at least so when the ratio between the camshafts and crankshaft is fixed. Engines with variable valve timing, though, combine the best of both worlds, so to say. They do this by incorporating a mechanism that advances or retards camshafts rotation depending on driving conditions. This, in effect, keeps valves opened as much as possible for most of the rev range.

My engine oil level was definitely within the limits and my oil wasn't dirty. It dawned on me that the last time I put gas in the car, I was in NJ where you can't pump your own gas and I don't think the attendant put the gas cap back on tight enough. P has to do with the VTC sensor. Check compression before you take it apart, because it may need piston rings also if it uses oil. Something like that: But what I really want to know is is it possible to mask this issue for 10 days? Anyone know what's causing this? In retrospect I guess it makes sense that it was the MAF due to how abruptly this happened and the fact that the engine would idle well for several seconds prior to idling poorly. Sign up. If an over-advanced camshaft phase, compared to the directed value, continues, or when the camshaft phase is otherwise abnormal, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored in the ECM.
P is a common Honda made vehicle trouble code. This code indicates the VVT advance control is malfunctioning, leaving the engine timing stuck advanced.
I have an 06, and was wondering where the Actuator is located. I got the ultra power and it's fine now It will cost less to clean out the screen and change the gasket than to swap out the actuator, which may or may not actually need replacing. Oil has been changed religiously at grease monkey with 5w20 synthetic oil as recommended. My engine oil level was definitely within the limits and my oil wasn't dirty. This is where I went wrong This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. As stated in the beginning, I almost went down the wrong path here. Fortunately, my vehicle is equipped with a Scangauge so I was able to pull over, get the trouble code and Google it on my Android, so thanks to the EOC, I know what the trouble code means and that I'd make it home safely that night. I apologise, but, in my opinion, you commit an error. I can defend the position.
Absolutely with you it agree. It seems to me it is very good idea. Completely with you I will agree.
