Honda 1200x crosstourer review

Shortly after its groundbreaking VFRF sport tourer was introduced forHonda launched an adventure-styled bike for based on the same smooth and powerful 1,cc V-4 engine used in the VFR.

BikeSocial Publisher since January Cried when Bike Trader stopped publishing a weekly publication. Not as sexy as having a million-and-one bhp, or new components in the engine alone begging the question, how could they have missed out those bits on the old one? The B is wet. And brown. Covered in claggy, muddy clay.

Honda has officially joined the adventure-touring party in earnest with the arrival of the long awaited VFRX Cross Tourer. It does boast mm of ground clearance, sturdy spoked rims and handguards, but like all machines of this genre, much work is needed for it to be turned into a serious off-road mount. Honda does offer modest optional crashbars dubbed cowl ornaments to satisfy lawyers as they are not crash tested to the various standard required around the world , as fitted to our test bike; but for serious protection buyers will need to turn to aftermarket manufacturers for a sturdy full-length bash plate to protect the undercarriage, crankcases and shock linkage, likewise for the radiator. I would also replace the mirrors with smaller independently-mounted items for serious adventures as the standard items affix to the hydraulic brake and clutch reservoirs, which is not ideal in the event of a tip-over. Every other machine on the market also requires similar modification to be fully prepared for serious off-road adventure so do not see this as a large blight on the VFRX per se, it is par for the proper adventure course. And with spoked rims and an engine that is almost impossible to stall, the VFRX does start from a fairly good base. While a lot of people reading that line will roll their eyes back in their head huge power outputs and pretty dyno charts are impressive on paper , on the road Honda have this engine absolutely spot-on for its intended purpose. Off the bottom the response while strong, is also crisp, easy to control and is virtually impossible to stall. Thumbs up. Strong highway overtaking urge is only a tweak of the wrist away. Any eagerness from a set of lights lofts the front wheel with ease, such is the bottom end stomp, and exploring the mid-range as you scythe from corner to corner is an enjoyable experience as you ride the meaningful surge of torque.

If you love low torque, low revving power houses its for you. Covered in claggy, muddy clay.

Like the Honda Crossrunner, the Crosstourer takes an existing Honda V-four sporty-tourer, and repackages it into a taller, adventure-styled tourer instead. That engine gets a fairly hefty detune though, with peak power dropping from bhp to bhp, with corresponding beefing up of the low-down and midrange torque. Honda also offers a DCT version, with an automatic dual-clutch transmission. This adds a chunk of mass — 10kg — and plenty of convenience. If you have any off-road pretentions though, the manual bike will be a better option. Its dash, rider aids and electronics package is a little dated now.

While it looks like a big adventure motorcycle, it is classified as a sport touring machine and we found that it is capable of pounding the pavement on long hauls and eating up the most twisty canyon roads. After spending a week and a half logging about 1, Miles on the VFRX, I came away with a pretty good idea where this bike belongs in the motorcycle universe. My goal was to leave Los Angeles and get lost on the VFR, so I packed my bags, strapped them down on the passenger pillion, and suited up for an adventure. Where would I go? I was not too sure. So, I just headed north. Ninety percent of the time spent on the VFRX was on pavement with about 10 percent spent exploring some fire roads in the Los Padres National Forest.

Lowes curtains and rods

I will get the front pads replaced after this season if we get one! Running Cost 4 out of 5 stars Running costs are not bad for a big bike, regularly returns over 40 mpg. Power delivery is pretty well linear, it does have a horrible snatchy nature at low revs which can be quite frustrating especially having been used to the silky smooth nature of the carbed BB previously. Ride Quality 5 out of 5 stars Stunning all rounder, can be thrown around the lanes and up the mountain twisties with ease while maintaining a super smooth ride Engine 5 out of 5 stars Huge grunt, V-powered awesomeness. Totally stable in all the miles i've done so far. Excellent dealer. It depends what you want if this bike suits you. This category can only be viewed by members. Complaints about tank size are unfounded cos 21 litres ish is reasonable. The bike has plenty enough HP and torque to easily pass the 18 wheelers at speed on the inrerstates.

Let me first remind all of you that this is my own opinion based on my own preferences as a motorcyclist because I can see the potential appeal that the VFR will have for others. Honda offers a fair amount of luggage options for the VFRX but they get a bit pricey. Generally good but forks and engine showing rust even though always kept in dry storage. Home Forum Subscribe About. DCT adds a little width and a second oil filter with the same replacement interval. Top box and lhs pannier will hold a full-face lid. How does the suspension fare on both beat up and well paved roads? They mount easily and the liter left one will hold a full-face helmet the liter right is indented to clear the muffler. Handling good Bloody heavy. Loved the turbine like, immense smooth power
