Launching a new business in the middle of a pandemic is not for the faint of heart. And, in fact, it was during the financial crisis of that Hunt started a workshop that designed and built prototypes for the Holly Hunt Collection. It was the first time Hunt focused on ramping up her in-house product line; the shop later evolved and expanded into a full-on production facility. It is both a return to arenas with which she is very familiar, while also being wholly different from her previous gigs, allowing her creative freedom and the ability to work more holistically across the entire home sector. After launching her showroom in Chicago in , Hunt opened nearly a dozen more locations throughout the U. She also created lines of furniture, textiles, and lighting, which frequently appeared in the homes of movers and shakers ranging from George Clooney to Silicon Valley execs. Hunt eventually sold the company to Knoll in but continued on, first as CEO and then as a consultant, until The designer shows no sign of slowing down with the launch of House of Hunt. Holly and I both love anything that has to do with the home.

With fresh product lines and new designers in its fold, the nearly year-old industry stalwart continues to evolve — and thrive. The company specializes in understatement: clean lines and a soothing palette of creams, browns, grays and tans. Founded almost four decades ago in Chicago, where it is still headquartered, it adheres to a design philosophy with a Midwestern inflection, in which elegance and refinement are matched with quality and craftsmanship. Hunt has long been a luminary in the design world, where she is considered a seer, but she had humble beginnings. Growing up in a tiny town in West Texas, she began making her own clothing as a sixth grader, customizing store-bought patterns and dreaming of following in the footsteps of Academy Award—winning costume designer Edith Head. At Texas Tech University, she majored in clothing and textiles and English literature. Then, she moved to New York City, where she worked as a designer at a costume-jewelry company.
