And no, it is not that way by design. A modern Jinhao is infinitely better in terms of manufacturing consistency and overall finish. I noticed that in your review, you talked about how sac filling pens were horrible and that the Parker 51 cult needed to be gone because your experience with that type of pen has been horrible. I still remember the sense of excitement I felt when I saw it for the first time. The pen is unsubstantial. In a lot of ways, modern Chinese manufacturing and tolerances have left them in the dust, but they do offer a window into the past and admittedly I do like inexpensive quirky options just for the sake of playing around with them.
