Havel the rock
Havel the Havel the rock is an enemy in Dark Souls. At the bottom of the tower before the Taurus Demon boss arena, the player can use the Watchtower Basement Key or the Master Key to find him waiting at the end of the final staircase; alternatively, havel the rock, the tower can be accessed adjacent to the Hydra's area in Darkroot Basin: when entering, the knight is waiting for the player at the right side of the door.
Havel the Rock was once a bishop and a close friend and battlefield compatriot of Lord Gwyn 's. He served on the battlefield alongside Gwyn, leading a group of men in armor carved from solid rock. These warriors wore a ring to help them use their heavy armor effectively, and to show faith in their leader. Havel is found locked in a watchtower in the Undead Burg , long hollowed. Havel wielded the Great Magic Barrier miracle in order to combat his sworn enemy, Seath the Scaleless. This miracle can be found on the path to Ash Lake.
Havel the rock
Havel the Rock is a powerful opponent found at the bottom of the spiral watchtower leading up to the Taurus Demon in the Undead Burg , guarding the entrance to Darkroot Basin. He wields a massive dragon's tooth hammer and Havel's Greatshield while wearing the heavy Havel's Set. While somewhat slow moving due to his heavy gear, his attacks deal incredible damage to unwary opponents, and his armor and shield protect him from all but the strongest counter attacks. Havel is aggressive, and will pursue you on sight a fairly far distance within the general confines of his tower. It is unclear whether he was the head Bishop of the order or whether he deferred to Allfather Lloyd, the patriarch of Thorolund itself. Havel was likely a member of Gwyn's army during the Age of Fire, creating a question about why he deferred to Gwyn later in life. Havel is not Gwyn's uncle. The placement of the comma implies that Lord Gwyn's uncle is Allfather Lloyd and not the head bishop of the Way of the White. He turned hollow later in life and was locked in the watchtower basement by 'a dear friend,' as stated on the flavour text of the watchtower basement key. There are two possibilities as to who this 'dear friend' could be. Some suggest it was the charred divine blacksmith in Darkroot Garden in the tower after the Moonlight Butterfly , an obvious candidate considering his skill at forging, his possible origins in Thorolund as a divine blacksmith and the fact that the watchtower basement key is found on his body. Others suggest that the 'dear friend' was Gwyn, before he himself turned hollow trying to protect Havel. In life Havel was a sworn enemy of Seath the Scaleless.
This is reflected in Havel's character design; rocky armour evoking the natural elements as opposed to arcane sorcery, and the dragon tooth; a symbol of his hate for magic of dragons, havel the rock.
Havel returns once more, this time as an enemy summoned by wizards in Archdragon Peak , and also in a proper encounter at the top of one of the buildings of this sacred place. The fight, however, will not be as difficult as it was in Lordran , since the player will most likely be at a high level and wielding advanced weaponry at that point in the game. In addition, the combat area will be much more spacious, allowing for better evading maneuvers. New to his repertoire of attacks is the ability to cast Stone Flesh on himself and cover his body with a rock layer, which will render him extremely resilient to attacks, but also reduce his mobility. Havel has a small chance of being summoned by the two Man Serpent Summoners that inhabit Archdragon Peak , one of which is found in the Dragon-Kin Mausoleum , and the other just before reaching the Great Belfry. Havel's fixed location lies at the top of the building on the right after coming from the Great Belfry , standing in front of a dead wyvern and guarding a Titanite Slab ; it does not matter if he was previously defeated as a summon in any of the other two areas.
The art of war has been a constant since ages past, and those who would follow in Havel's footsteps are no fewer now than in his own day. The warriors who followed Havel the Rock never flinched, nor retreated from battle, crushing any foe that stood in their way. Havel the Rock can be found on Archdragon Peak. He is located next to a dead Wyvern, on the top of a roof near the Great Belfry bonfire. Versions of him can also be summoned by the Serpent-man Summoners in this area.

It's a bit tedious and it takes a bit, but as long as you don't get impatient and start being too aggressive it's a pretty safe strategy. The key here is that, when backpedaling, Havel never has his shield up.
