After spending over three years in self-exile, prominent Egyptian activist Mamdouh Hamza has returned, arriving in Cairo on Sunday evening a few days after an emergency court lifted his name from travel ban lists. Shortly after he landed at Cairo International Airport, Hamza posted a video on his Facebook page in which he said he was received by a high-ranking police officer who welcomed him home as "one of Egypt's loyal sons. Hamza said he was "optimistic" and that lifting his name from the watch list may have insinuated "a breakthrough" and that "the country was moving towards the right direction. Local and international rights groups have estimated that more than 60, political prisoners are being held in Egypt. Hamza is known for being an outspoken critic of the regime of President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and his political and economic policies. It, I've always been a car guy. I don't think a lot of things that go your way, there's, there's always gonna be obstacles. My, my truck just broke down the other day. I was 31 when I made, did bank 1 million in like cash in the bank account. I don't care about all the. And at that time, the algorithm was like, there were, there weren't enough creators, so you were probably one of the first people to get in there, start creating and, you know, uh, post all the car. The shift wasn't, I'm leaving school. They want you to do the things that are easy for you, that is more guaranteed. So the very first month I put all my money into the building. I just did some research. The actual reason behind facilitating for Hamza to return home, though he criticised the government of Sisi until recently remains unclear. It was like right in between, I was getting a job at a gas station and that's what most middle Easterns do. And, um, yes, it did work out, but there's a lot of sacrifice behind that of course. Uh, obviously I'm not as big of a creator as you are, but we have had instances here in the company where we have as a team had to go into protection mode just to protect. So they did not like me doing what I was doing because it just didn't make sense to them.
