Ghost is a Swedish rock band known for its distinctive blend of theatricality, heavy metal , and arena rock. This album, nominated for a Grammis and featuring the song "Ritual"—listed by Kerrang! Ghost's ascendancy in the rock world continued with their album Meliora , which reached number one in Sweden and number eight in the US. Renowned for their unique on-stage presence, Ghost's members, except for the lead vocalist, are known as "Nameless Ghouls" [4] and perform in matching, face-concealing costumes. Until a lawsuit filed by former members of Ghost, the band's frontman, Tobias Forge , performed incognito under the persona of "Papa Emeritus", a character known for its "demonic anti-pope" [4] imagery. This theatrical element has been a hallmark of Ghost, with Forge adopting various incarnations of Papa Emeritus and other characters, such as "Cardinal Copia" for the album Prequelle and its supporting tour, A Pale Tour Named Death. Each character, marked by a prosthetic mask with black eye makeup and multi-colored eyes , adds to the band's mystique. In , during the final show of this tour, Forge's Cardinal Copia character was promoted and transformed into "Papa Emeritus IV", [5] a persona he continued with for the album Impera and the corresponding Imperatour. Ghost was formed in , when future band leader Tobias Forge wrote the song "Stand by Him". When the chorus came to me, it haunted my dreams. Every time I picked up the guitar, I ended up playing that progression, and when I fit the words in, it seemed to cry out for a Satanically-oriented lyric. The album reached number 50 on the Sverigetopplistan and was well received by critics, being nominated for the Grammis Award for "Best Hard Rock" album. Following their performance, Phil Anselmo , lead singer of the band Down , performed wearing a Ghost T-shirt and invited three members of the band to join him on the main stage, where they performed Down's "Bury Me In Smoke" together. In February , a Nameless Ghoul revealed that the band had completed writing their second album. In our world, we're just gonna be called Ghost
