Geodesic dome calculator
Select Hub Size: Select "No Hubs" to get the true "chord" length for each strut, geodesic dome calculator, which is the full distance for the strut between each geodesic dome vertex. For most dome construction methods, you will use the "No Hubs" selection. When using our Hubs, the width of our Center Geodesic dome calculator must be added to the strut length to give the true geodesic dome dimensions. These hubs are used with 1" PVC pipe for struts.

NOTE: If you enter a measure in feet, your results are in feet or, in the case of floor area, square feet. Same goes for meters. When entering in feet, decimals are fractions of a foot or square foot for example: 2. The formula is: tip to hole center X 2 X number of struts. For timber domes, angles should be to the nearest tenth of a degree.

Red struts B in the 3v graphic are 80 deg 10 deg and the blue A struts are Thanks Colin, I've fixed that now, colour coding and angles should now be the same throughout the site.
I've been out of town, but any info I can get would be helpfull.

Keeping the sticks light in weight will help when going to larger diameters. For stick ideas and advice on where to buy them go here. Minimises clashing during the build, keeps the weight down and is a good size proportionately in relation to the hubs and ball connectors.

After a year of living and camping in the desert, Patrick and I decided to build a geodesic dome structure to provide us with shade and shelter from the elements. Simple picnic tents and EZ-up shelters that are commonly used just won't cut it in this desert environment. Strong and gusty winds often blow in unexpectedly and are known to mangle inadequate structures without regard. We chose to build a geodesic dome because of its inherent stability and natural resistance to strong winds. First we did some research on dome construction to see what materials would be needed. Geodesic domes are comprised of a network of triangles that form a somewhat spherical surface. We found that there are several dome classes that are referred to as 1V, 2V, 3V etc.

I need the angles for all. HI Dom, Yes there is a way to calculate this angle, it's called the dihedral angle between panels. Hi Paul, Great site, almost what I was looking for. These piers can be of varying lengths, but as a rule for large permanent structures they should go past the frost line and preferably down to the bedrock. All Rights Reserved. Material prices vary with suppliers and area. I live in northern upper michigan and we do get a lot of snow. I've been out of town, but any info I can get would be helpfull. Floor Surface and Capacity. I would really appreciate a similar color coded layout of all the struts if anyone has one. Hi there, Thanks for this site

Hi again, My earlier comments about dome floor area pertain to the 2v calculation tool. I'm a professional builder who loves making things. Hi Tim, Sounds like an interesting project. Total Triangles: A 20ft may be better but then the cover flapping becomes a problem again :. Can I use wider sticks? Important: about odd geodesic dome frequencies i. Feet or Meters Click the button for "Meters" if you are using metric measurements. Five in one tool Use this tool to find out floor area, diameter, surface area, circumference and volume of a dome. It's public domain so you're welcome to it if you can make any use out of it, but it really needs attaching to a nice front end to be really useful. All Rights Reserved.
In it something is. Now all turns out, many thanks for the help in this question.
