When we started carrying the Garmin brand for this solution, I knew it would be a home run for all RVers. Karen from Garmin visited TechnoRV a couple of days ago, and I was able to grab her for a few minutes to sit with her and go over the basic questions we get about these units, and I wanted to share that interview with you. They also explain why a Garmin GPS is the simplest way to navigate your RV safely without having to deal with tons of apps and maps and everything else we use to make our travel days less stressful. If you prefer to read rather than watch a video, I will cover the basics here. First, each Garmin unit can be customized for your specific RV and how you like to be routed. So, when I am in my Class A, it may route me a different way than when I am in my much smaller travel trailer. I call it instant peace of mind. I have had the Garmin in 49 states and have never had it route me on a road that was not safe for my RV. I am not saying that the GPS is perfect, because none of them are, but from my experience it certainly has been. Remember the days of using nothing but a paper map! Seems like a lifetime ago, and since those days we have all taken thousands of turns with our GPS telling us what to do. The RV specific units just take it to a new level for us RVers. This includes RV parks, gas stations, truck stops, rest areas, national park entrances, restaurants, and so much more. And that is one large stumbling block that, as nice as this unit may be, is awfully hard to get past. The unit was introduced recently, and the company sent us a review unit. So over the past six weeks, we used the Garmin RV as we traveled 2, miles through seven states with our foot Arcadia Fifth Wheel. Here's a video overview of what we liked and didn't like, with some real examples of those pros and cons shown as we experienced them on the road. It can be viewed in landscape or portrait mode, depending on where you mount it. We had no place on the dash of our Ford F to mount the display.

Navigation is the number one cause of stress between couples that travel or live full-time in an RV. Okay, this claim might not be substantiated, but anyone who has traveled any distance with their partner in an RV knows that even the slightest of navigation errors can have grave consequences. Back in those days, we used a good old-fashioned atlas to pick our routes and decide on potential campgrounds. Those old Wal-Mart atlases still hold a special place in my heart, and I actually still keep one in my RV to this day. While it can be a good idea to keep an atlas on hand for emergency navigation purposes, most high-tech RVers these days rely on GPS units that make navigation much easier. With definite displays and a host of navigation features, a GPS unit is a great tool to take the stress out of navigating to your next campground or RV park. RV GPS units typically mount on the dashboard where the driver can easily see the display without taking your eyes off the road. When they do their job effectively, they provide advanced notice when a turn is coming up, alert you to upcoming traffic as a result of an accident, and provide real-time information on low-hanging bridges or other obstacles that RVs should avoid.
