When you've set out to take control of an unstable region defined by strife between warlords, the first thing you need is an army. As far as troops go, they are fairly simple. A militia sniper will remain a militia sniper. However, soldiers still do fall into certain tiers which become obvious over time. The lowest tier units are the generic bandit troops. They generally have slightly worse stats compared to village recruits, and cost twice as much. You should avoid bandit troops outside of one specific scenario: they make a great frontal assault team for a heavily defended town, making a valiant sacrifice while you better read: literally any other soldiers capitalize on the distraction. After that, you have village recruits, who at least know their worth and demand very little pay. The next tier up is the militia, who are largely weak troops when hired, but are the first troops with long-term potential. High level militia troops can hold their own in squads of low to mid level elites. After that are the regional bandits, like the desert and mountain bandits. The only reason I rank them higher than militia is due to their tendency to specialize with assault rifles and machine guns, which are largely the best weapons in the game for NPCs. Faction troops are around this skill level, but have the advantage of reasonably good kit and generally decent leveling by the time you capture them. Finally, you have the elite troops, which are named after various animals.

Freeman: Guerrilla Warfare is set in a collapsed state, occupied by battling factions , bandits and warlords who seek to rule the world - or whatever passes for it in this forgotten land. The game is about your career as a faction leader: Start with minimal assets, you need to make money, build an army, wage wars against other factions and eliminate your rival forces with thoughtful strategies and fine marksmanship and eventually conquer the world. The game provides a completely different shooter experience which strikes a balance between intense first-person action and general strategy. The game's combat system blends tactical FPS with real-time strategy, allowing you to command an army, plan for tactics in the God view, while immersing in the intense firefight as a foot soldier, in the first person perspective. Start your career with almost nothing, you must make money, recruit soldiers, loot villages, fight bandits, attack territories and dominate the world. The game is a combination of challenging action and a wider strategic theatre. Experience the unique combat system which blends real-time strategy with a tactical first-person shooter. You are expected to strategically plan the movements and tactics of multiple squads in addition to having to be an eagle-eyed sharpshooter and possessing catlike reactions. The game is about realism. Killing enemies with only a pistol is not possible.
