And be at peace among yourselves. The first epistle to the Thessalonians was written from Athens. The apostle exhorts to be always ready for the coming of Christ to judgment, which will be with suddenness and surprise. Christ did not reveal this to the apostles. There are times and seasons for us to work in, and these are our duty and interest to know and observe; but as to the time when we must give up our account, we know it not, nor is it needful that we should. The coming of Christ will be a great surprise to men. Our Lord himself said so. As the hour of death is the same to each person that the judgment will be to mankind in general, so the same remarks answer for both. Christ's coming will be terrible to the ungodly. Their destruction will overtake them while they dream of happiness, and please themselves with vain amusements.

For you yourselves know that g we are destined for this. But we urge you , brothers , to a do this more and more , 11 and to aspire b to live quietly , and c to mind your own affairs , and d to work with your hands , as we instructed you , 12 so that you may e walk properly before f outsiders and be dependent on no one. And s the dead in Christ will rise first. We are not of the night or of the darkness. For that day will not come , h unless the rebellion comes first , and i the man of lawlessness 2 is revealed , j the son of destruction , 3 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship , so that he takes his seat in the temple of God , k proclaiming himself to be God.

The Day of the Lord. The Day of the Lord Living in Light: A Guide to the End Times and Christian Living 1 Thessalonians 5 is a poignant call to readiness, spiritual vigilance, mutual edification, and unceasing prayer, underscoring the essential tenets of Christian living. In a world often besieged by darkness, the chapter reminds us of our calling as children of light, equipped with the hope of salvation, and the imperative to foster peace, love, and respect within our communities. Alert for the Day of the Lord 1 Thessalonians Paul explains that the exact timing of the "Day of the Lord" is unpredictable, like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come upon them suddenly. Children of Light 1 Thessalonians Paul reminds the Thessalonians that they are not in darkness, but in light. He calls for vigilance and sobriety, as those awaiting the Lord's return should be armed with faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. Destined for Salvation 1 Thessalonians Here, Paul reaffirms that God has not destined believers for wrath, but to obtain salvation through Jesus Christ. He encourages believers to edify one another, building each other up. Respecting and Loving One Another 1 Thessalonians Paul instructs the Thessalonians to respect and acknowledge those who labor among them, and to live in peace with one another.
