The mutated sloth is a lumbering creature unleashed upon West Virginia after the Great War. Although indigenous to tropical climates, a small population of these creatures has been imported to West Virginia by Isaac Garrahan. Obsessed with the creature, [1] he kept them in luxurious enclosures at the Garrahan Estate , although his lax animal keeping skills resulted in regular escapes - much to the chagrin of his brother, Bill. They achieved the same feat after the Great War, making their way down from the Estate into the wilderness. Thanks to the radiation, the megasloth has not only adapted to the temperate environment, but also became much, much larger.

Mega sloths , also known as megasloths , [1] [2] are creatures found in Appalachia. Before the Great War , Isaac Garrahan owned several sloths at his family's estate. They are recorded to have escaped the enclosure on at least two occasions, and the lack of sloth remains in the cages at the Garrahan Estate implies they escaped again following the War. The mega sloths are three-toed sloths mutated by radiation. Standing much taller than the average human, their body is covered with filthy and shaggy fur with clusters of mushrooms growing in the fur on their back, similar to fungus grew in the fur of pre-War sloths. These megasloth mushrooms release clouds of spores when the sloth shakes its body, deterring aggressors that get too close. They have heavily calloused patches of skin and sharp teeth. Mega sloths are much larger than pre-War variants. Unlike most creatures, mega sloths may not be immediately hostile; they will ignore anything that is not attacking them. Mega sloths can be found throughout the Mire and Cranberry Bog. Some can be found dangling from large trees, similar to gulpers.

But for the third president of the United States? It was Stuart who recorded the slaughter of four Shawnee Native American diplomats at Point Pleasant; one of them, Chief Cornstalk, had been a crucial proponent of peace, and his death was considered a curse on the area. It later became fuel for the myth of the Mothman. Once his Native American-murdering days were over, Stuart retired to Lewisburg where, in the s, saltpetre manufacturers stumbled upon fossilised bones just five miles from his home. As a founding father of the United States, Jefferson had a vested interest in proving that giant sloths and mammoths still roamed the land. A few years later, Jefferson was president of an expanding country. In he oversaw the Louisiana Purchase, nearly doubling the size of the US after negotiations with Napoleon. That new land needed mapping, and so a corps of US Army volunteers was sent out to explore it under the command of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. Lewis and Clark documented plenty of plants and wildlife during their expedition, becoming celebrated pioneers in the centuries that followed. But they found no living mega sloth, a fact that seemed to weigh on Jefferson in his later years.
