Fallout 4 offers you the chance to form a bond with another character, but it's not as simple as turning up with gifts or remembering to explore dialogue options; as with real life, you'll have to prove yourself consistently interesting and delightful. As part of our Fallout 4 guide, we have all the details. Although this is a romance guide, it's worthwhile forming a bond with any of Fallout 4's companions you recruit , love interest or not; if you impress them enough, you'll unlock a bonus character perk. Note that Dogmeat is an exception to this rule; his relationship status is always at maximum, and his perks are unlocked manually in the Charisma tree. There are 12 potential companions, but - without going into spoiling territory - there are reasons why some of them are not available for romance. Apart from these restrictions, your love interests don't much care about your gender, race, dress sense or looks - what they care about is your behaviour.

In keeping true to its Bethesda heritage, Fallout 4 allows players to choose a companion from a wide variety of NPCs, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. Piper is a renegade journalist operating in Diamond City, one whose tenacity and penchant for publishing the unfiltered truth often gets her in trouble with her fellow citizens. To gain Piper as a companion, visit her office after first meeting her and agree to an interview. After you complete the interview, she will be available as a companion. She values generosity and peacefulness, tolerates meanness, but hates greed and violence. When Piper is your companion, choose generous, mean dialogue choices or those that de-escalate a situation. Avoid those that are selfish such as asking for a higher reward or that might lead to a fight. Stealing or pickpocketing should be avoided while Piper is around, as she disapproves of both.
