The F10 5 Series shares a platform with the F01 7 Series full-size luxury sedan and the F12 6 Series executive-sized grand tourers. Introduced in , the M5 model is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The Gran Turismo F07 is the first and only 5 Series to be produced in a fastback body style with a hatchback truck opening. In February , the G30 5 Series was released as the successor to the F The F10 was unveiled in Munich on 23 November The sedan was the second body style to be launched.

The 6th-gen BMW 5 Series was given its only facelift for the model year and it was so subtle, it would go unnoticed by some. The F10's general appearance is a lot less out there and far more reserved than its more controversial E60 predecessor, which was designed under the creative leadership of Chris Bangle. The front light clusters retain their shape but are new, with flat-bottomed corona-ring daytime running lights and less fussy turn signals 1. The front bumper is new too 2 , with the V motive blending into the lower bumper a lot more smoothly and the lower valance being completely redesigned with new round fog lights 3. On normal trims, new C-shaped chrome applique is applied to the outer thirds of the lower valance 4 , with the lower air dam narrowing in the center.

The BMW E60 was a problem child from the get-go as it replaced the beloved E39 5-Series — a lineup that many still consider as one of the best models from the Bavarian giants. The BMW F10 made its debut in and was in production until This was the first and only generation of the 5-Series that comprised a GT iteration. The F10 was also the first 5-Series to include several other bits of technology and hardware. These included a hybrid powertrain option, a turbocharged V8 engine , an 8-speed automatic transmission, a double-wishbone front suspension, and park assist as standard. The F10 M5 also introduced tech like a dual-clutch transmission and rear-wheel steering to the performance sedan. It also became the first M5 to feature a turbocharged engine.
