Some people will try many different things to turn back time or to look a little younger - whether it be cosmetic surgery or non-invasive tweaks like injectables. If you're anything like me, you may be trying to put it all off for just a little longer - but want a temporary solution to help lift sagging hooded eyelids. Recently, I discovered I had three products in my makeup stash that were begging to be tried out. First up, we have Remescar Sagging Eyelids cream. Image: Supplied. On the instructions, it tells you to rub a rice-size amount between two fingertips to activate, then wipe from the inner to the outer corner of the sagging hood of your eyelids. You're then supposed to keep your eyes closed and fan them for about three to four minutes.

To me, they were yet another reminder of how different I was from the other kids in my class. I held onto that word. So when my sister decided to try to change her monolids, I was intrigued. Instead of paying for expensive eyelid surgery , also called Asian blepharoplasty, she decided to try to create a permanent crease by wearing eyelid tape constantly. She started with packets of pre-cut tape from Asian beauty stores and eventually mastered cutting the tape herself. It became strangely normal for me to see my sister with tape hovering above her eyes. The more I looked at her, the more I started to buy into the trend, even imagining the way my eyes could look with double-lidded makeup. Applying eye makeup with monolids is a challenge. The thin line of makeup tends to disappear from sight once you open your eyes.
The double eyelid effect can also be achieved surgically with full-incision blepharoplasty.

This study evaluated the effects of four-week wear of double eyelid tape on anterior ocular health in young adult women with single eyelids. Specifically for people with monolids — lids that lack a crease — the tape can create the appearance of a double eyelid, making the eyes look bigger or stand out.

They may be a niche product in America, but they are everywhere in Asia — little curved strips of tape which look like they've been made with adhesive or magic tape. To women who have monolids or droopy eyelids, eyelid tape may as well be a commodity, as they are used to look more wide-eyed in some cases, or younger in others. Putting on eyelid tape could also require plenty of practice because the tape also requires you to lay it in place by using rounded, flat, plastic sticks via D-Up. Given the level of difficulty in applying the tape, we can be forgiven for thinking leaving the tape on for long periods of time could somehow change the shape of your eyes. But can they?
