Exotic weapons are some of the most sought after gear in Destiny 2offering players a wide variety of interesting ways to dispatch enemies. In addition to looking unique from other weapons in the game, exotics often have interesting traits like Ex Diris which was added inside of Season of the Witch and enrages when dealing or taking sustained damage, offering players increased exotic catalyst of fire while also spawning an enemy seeking and explosive moth. While there are many exotic weapons that have become fan favorites, exotic catalyst have seen an even bigger boost in power and functionality thanks to a catalyst.
Exotic Catalysts are special modifiers for Exotic weapons first introduced in the Warmind expansion for Destiny 2. They improve and upgrade Exotic weapons within the game by either improving stats, giving bonus perks, or raising the magazine size. Each weapon has its own catalyst and has specific objectives to find them. Catalysts used to function exactly like Masterworks and generate Orbs of Light on multi kills, but this feature was removed from both Catalysts and Masterworks. Once you find a catalyst for a weapon, you will have to do specific objectives with the weapon, such as precision hits or simply kill enemies in order to unlock the upgrade. Masterwork: Adds Focused Fire perk Hold reload to swap to a tighter, close-ranged spread.

Players who want to increase the potency of their favorite Exotic weapons will want to begin tracking down and completing the many Exotic Catalysts in Destiny 2. Exotic Catalysts can drop from numerous locations in Destiny 2, though each Catalyst has its own specific drop location. Catalysts can drop from general content like Patrols, Strikes, Nightfalls, and Heroic Adventures, from multiplayer content like Quickplay Crucible and Competitive Crucible, as well as from end-game activities like the many raids. The best option is to find one you want, and then farm the activity until the Catalyst drops. Note: With the release of each expansion, several Exotic catalyst sources are removed. If you do not unlock a catalyst before the arrival of a new expansion, you will not be able to unlock them until Bungie changes the drop source. Most of Destiny 2's weapons can be enhanced by Masterworking them. When a weapon is Masterworked, it gains additional properties such as bonus stats or new perks. Exotics work a bit differently. Rather than obtain a random stat bump, these weapons gain massive stat increases or new perks. Masterworking an Exotic requires the discovery of an Exotic Catalyst, an item that can drop from certain activities. Most Exotics, but not all, have a Catalyst that Guardians can earn. This guide will cover everything from what Catalysts are to what every single Exotic Catalyst does in Destiny 2.
With the release of its Warmind update , Destiny 2 added a new exotic weapon masterwork system called catalysts. By completing specific actions, players have a chance of earning a catalyst for an exotic weapon, which turns it into a masterwork. However, once a player has a masterwork catalyst they have to complete another set of objectives usually getting kills using the weapon in a certain activity before the true benefits of the masterwork are applied. Not every exotic weapon in Destiny 2 has a masterwork, but there are quite a few that do. However, Bungie chose not to reveal how to acquire each catalyst so it was up to the community to figure each one out.
