Scammers are reportedly pretending to be from the delivery company. A warning has been issued to anyone who uses delivery service Evri. A number of people have reported receiving emails from scammers claiming to be from the company. They say how a parcel was unable to be delivered to them and asks the user to click a link. This then takes them to a phishing site where the person is asked to input sensitive information.

Evri reported at the time that the huge surge had led to an extra million parcels entering its network and it saw 5 years of growth in just 5 months. As more people shop online, scammers have been quick to take advantage of consumers recognising that millions of us would be waiting on a delivery from one of the big delivery companies. Bogus text and emails impersonating well-known retailers and parcel firms are sent out in attempt to trick consumers into handing over their personal information and bank details. Sending out millions of these messages each month across a variety of different brands in hope of catching you out. The following day I was phoned by a man who said he was from the John Lewis fraud team and told me my account had been compromised. He clearly had some access to my account as he was able to tell me details of purchases, and was very convincing. However, after a while I became uncomfortable with the direction the conversation was taking as he wanted me to share my bank account details, and with the help of my daughter, used online banking to freeze my First Direct account I had inputted my bank card details in the first instance and terminated the call. This transaction was promptly refused and I lost nothing, fortunately for me. I think it is important to alert readers to this scam.
