The —23 EuroCup Basketball season was the 21st season of Euroleague Basketball 's secondary level professional club basketball tournament. The season began on 11 October and ended 3 May The defending champions were Virtus Bologna , who were unable to defend their title as they played in the —23 EuroLeague. A total of 20 teams from 13 leagues participate in the —23 EuroCup Basketball. League positions after playoffs of the previous season shown in parentheses. The schedule of the competition was as follows. The draw was held on 8 July in Barcelona , Spain. The 20 teams were drawn into two groups of 10, with the restriction that teams from the same league could not be drawn against each other, except when there were more than two teams from the same league participating in the regular season. For the draw, the teams were seeded into 10 pots, in accordance with the Club Ranking , based on their performance in European competitions during a three-year period and the lowest possible position that any club from that league can occupy in the draw is calculated by adding the results of the worst performing team from each league. The fixtures were decided after the draw, using a computer draw not shown to public, with the following match sequence: [3]. Note: Positions for scheduling do not use the seeding pots, e. There were scheduling restrictions: for example, teams from the same city in general were not scheduled to play at home on the same round to avoid them playing at home on the same day or on consecutive days, due to logistics and crowd control. The 20 teams are divided into two groups of 10 teams each. In each group, teams will play against each other home-and-away in a round-robin format for a total of 18 games played by each team. The top eight teams from each group will advance to the playoffs , while the last two teams from each group will be eliminated.

The league is regarded as Euroleague Basketball 's second-tier professional basketball club tournament. The number of the new competition was increased to a total of 48 and the winner of the 3d tier FIBA EuroCup Challenge , formerly known as EuroCup would get an automatic qualification for the tournament's following season, for first time. Though initially advertised as a new competition, the ULEB Cup and EuroCup Basketball are now considered the same competition, with the change of name being simply a re-branding. The first official act of the 7DAYS EuroCup comes your way on Friday, July 8, with the annual draw to divide the 20 participating teams into two regular season groups. Each club will get 2 points for a win and 1 point for a tie or loss from the Regular Season onwards. The Club Ranking consists of the sum of the club coefficients from the last three years. Should a tie persist, the final standings in the EuroLeague and if necessary EuroCup from the previous season will be used to break the tie.
