I've got to admit I'm still fairly inexperienced at this game. I saw a mission that seems to pay well and didn't sound too hard at first: fly to a settlement, do whatever it is I need to do there, and fly back. However, whatever I need to do there is illegal, and apparently they start shooting at me whenever I even get close. Also, trying to figure out how to "interface with a Hub Access Terminal datalink", I find a lot of people asking that question online, with no clear answers. Sounds like it's one of the hardest missions short of assassinations. Was this a bad idea, or is this still doable? Do you need an SRV for this?

Elite dangerous data
Encoded Materials , also known as Data , is a type of material gathered by scanning various technological sources and used in Engineer blueprints. It is stored in a dedicated data store, up to a maximum of units. Target any ship either in Supercruise or sub-light speeds and centre it in your field of view. Your ship will scan it automatically, and sometimes you will receive data, typically shield or emissions-related. Found in Degraded Emissions and Encoded Emissions amongst destroyed ship debris. Found in Encoded Emissions around populated Earthlike worlds, or at some installations. Ancient Guardian ruins on the surfaces of certain planets are the sole source of Guardian-related data and materials. Some missions will require you to scan the data point of a nearby small settlement not otherwise listed in your navigation panel. These settlements can only be found as mission targets, and the data point scan will often produce rare and very rare data.
