Xu Graham Neubig. Rojas Barahona. Lee Jason Lee. Is this true? Hiroshi Noji Yohei Oseki. Data from experiments on three tasks, five datasets, and six models with four attacks show that punctuation insertions, when limited to a few symbols apostrophes and hyphens , are a superior attack vector compared to character insertions due to 1 a lower after-attack accuracy A aft-atk than alphabetical character insertions; 2 higher semantic similarity between the resulting and original texts; and 3 a resulting text that is easier and faster to read as assessed with the Test of Word Reading Efficiency TOWRE. Our findings indicate that inserting a few punctuation types that result in easy-to-read samples is a general attack mechanism.

Our results indicate the importance of further exploring effective strategies for neural reasoning models. Most recent models infer the latent representations with a transformer encoder, which is purely bottom-up and thus does not capture long-distance context well, eacl 2023. We will accept papers to Findings eacl 2023 in addition to main conference proceedings, in line with recent ACL conferences.
However, in order to keep the review load on the community as a whole manageable, we ask authors to decide up-front if they want their papers to be reviewed through ARR or EACL. Note: Submissions from ARR cannot be modified except that they can be associated with an author response. Consequently, care must be taken in deciding whether a submission should be made to ARR or EACL directly if the work has not been submitted anywhere before the call. Plan accordingly. This means that the submission must either be explicitly withdrawn by the authors, or the ARR reviews are finished and shared with the authors before October 13, , and the paper was not re-submitted to ARR.

While multimodal sentiment analysis MSA has gained much attention over the last few years, the main focus of most work on MSA has been limited to constructing multimodal representations that capture interactions between different modalities in a single task. This was largely due to a lack of unimodal annotations in MSA benchmark datasets.

Consequently, models trained on random splits may not perform well on rumor classification on previously unseen topics due to the temporal concept drift. The paper presents our work on corpus annotationfor metaphor in German. Call For Papers. We demonstrate how the proposed dataset can be used to model the task of multimodal summarization by training a Transformer-based neural model. The experiments with different Transformer inductive biases on the variety of tasks provide a glimpse at the understanding of federated learning at NLP tasks. Our proposed Life Event Dialog dataset and in-depth analysis of IE frameworks will facilitate future research on life event extraction from conversations. Finally, we show that this framework is comparable in performance with previous supervised schema induction methods that rely on collecting real texts and even reaching the best score in the prediction task. Despite the recent advancement of machine translation, it remains a demanding task to properly reflect personal style. The analysis and results show the usefulness of our methodology and resources, shedding light on how racial hoaxes are spread, and enable the identification of negative stereotypes that reinforce them. We argue that recurrent syntactic and semantic regularities in textual data can be used to provide the models with both structural biases and generative factors. The answers to these questions can be found by collecting many documents on the complex event of interest, extracting relevant information, and analyzing it. The resulting corpus, which we call LongtoNotes contains documents in multiple genres of the English language with varying lengths, the longest of which are up to 8x the length of documents in Ontonotes, and 2x those in Litbank. Current rumor detection benchmarks use random splits as training, development and test sets which typically results in topical overlaps.

We introduce a new data augmentation scheme as part of our model training strategy, which involves sampling a variety of node aggregations, permutations, and removals, all of which help capture fine-grained and coarse topical shifts in the data and improve model performance. However, in order to keep the review load on the community as a whole manageable, we ask authors to decide up-front if they want their papers to be reviewed through ARR or EACL. However, we observe significant representational gap between the native source language texts during training and the texts translated into source language during evaluation, as well as the texts translated into target language during training and the native target language texts during evaluation. Ablation studies demonstrate the value added by our new scoring strategies. We also highlight shortcomings of existing evaluation methods, and introduce new metrics that take into account both lexical and high-level semantic similarity. It also supports commands defined in previous ACL style files for compatibility. With our case studies, we hope to bring to light the fine-grained ways in which multilingual models can be biased, and encourage more linguistically-aware fluency evaluation. We also devise the best method to utilize the conversational structure i. Manual evaluation of retrieval results performed by medical doctors indicate that while our system performance is promising, there is considerable room for improvement. Violations of the code of ethics as well as complaints raised under the anti-harassment policy should be brought to the Professional Conduct Committee , who can be reached during the conference via the PCC channel in RocketChat, or you may also contact any current member of the EACL Executive Board. We find that these models tend to learn to solve the benchmark, rather than learning the high-level skills required by the VQA task. To further enhance the quality of label descriptions, we propose to generate pseudo label descriptions from a trained bag-of-words BoW classifier, which demonstrates better classification performance under severe scarce data conditions. We aggregate six challenging conditional text generation tasks under the BanglaNLG benchmark, introducing a new dataset on dialogue generation in the process. Next, we present the simple observations to mitigate the overfitting of ILD: distilling only the last Transformer layer and conducting ILD on supplementary tasks. September 28,
