E36 overheating
I drive a '97 that recently had a problem with the temperature gauge hit the red zone in traffic. The temperature didn't stay there long, e36 overheating, though; I pulled into a parking lot to shut it off, but found the temperature would drop when it got moving, so I e36 overheating to limp it home. Found out that sure enough, the auxiliary electric fan was dead.

All of a sudden out of the blue, you glance down and notice that your coolant temperature needle is to the right of the 12 o'clock position, or horror of horrors the red light is on! Now that's dealt with, signal, pull to the side of the road and turn the car off. Do not try to limp the car home. At this point you have two choices: 1. Call a flatbed tow truck. Get her home safely. Figure it out, fix it on the side of the road because that's how you roll.
It cant spin all the way around w one push.
Original Poster. Search My Stuff What's New 3 12 24 OP Posts Only. Its still overheating almost immediately and no hot air from the heater. These engines seem to have known over heating issues and i suspect that the rad is partly at fault as it was weeping from the coolant low sensor at the bottom of the rad, but that doesnt explain the rapid overheating, the lack of warm air from the heater and the fact that the top hose doesnt seem to be full. I think it could be a thermostat or water pump issue.

I thought that changing the thermostat would fix the problem but the car started to overheat again few days ago, basically this only happens when the weather is hot and humid and I am driving in stop and go traffic. I have replaced the coolant when I changed the thermostat.

Post by Pat » Aug 10, PM I think your right about the M60 in E32s, i didnt think of that, e38s all have bleeder screws even 95s iirc. If the coolant is actually getting hotter and then cooling off: 1 Are you losing any coolant or do you smell coolant in the exhaust?

I had the same thing those are a pig to bleed! Mine was overheating following a coolant change I broke down on the motorway - local garage chap brought 25 litres of water - we must of put about an extra 5 more than I thought was full. Thanks guys!! I went back round to the front and undid the bleed screw a bit and pressure started to release, then the top of the bleed screw snapped! BMW Models. There are also a number of sensors on the M50 that can be included in the preventative maintenance column.
