It often seems like Gordon Ramsay tries to work culinary miracles. On his long-running show "Kitchen Nightmares," the chef and TV downcity providence kitchen nightmares attempts to breathe new life into failing establishments on the verge of closing. When the staff get Abby to admit the menu is unbearably large, she begrudgingly admits to changing it. Gordon introduces a simpler new menu with considerably fewer items after witnessing a dinner service. The standard of the food is improved, but the kitchen gets swamped again, while customers are left waiting for food and start making for the door. When Abby reveals a lack of faith in Jimmy, Chef Ramsay calls in one of his chefs to help get the kitchen staff in order. He also invites Stacy Place, a local food blogger who had written a brutal review of Downcity previously. Personally, I never understood why they called in Ramsay in the first place. They get into a very heated argument and Abby orders Gordon to leave the restaurant so he walks out.

Rico has a full-time job, so the day to day operations fall on Abby. Abby has 33 years of experience, while Rico is the money. Abby believes in the menu and the food. Abby however is not nice to the staff, and they all consider her a problem. Rico decides they are suffering too many financial losses and calls upon Gordon, nothing that he will have his hands full with Abby. Gordon walks into DownCity and is greeted by Abby, Rico is not present. Gordon asks her to rate the food, and she calls it a Gordon says he hopes the food is good, as he's just eaten have some bad room service at his hotel.

With its interesting name, vibrant decor, and appearance on two "Kitchen Nightmares" episodes , DownCity had its shot at survival. The restaurant was featured in Season 3, Episode 7, and then again in a "Revisited" episode in Season 4, Episode 5. The initial taping stands out as particularly interesting due to the foul mouth and abrasive nature of one of the owners.
