Since the event is being held in Shanghai, four more teams from the Chinese region will be attending the event. The China Qualifiers, which just concluded, ended up having Invictus Gaming on top. This means that iG, Team VG. J, LGD. Forever Young, and iG Vitality will be the four additional Chinese teams attending the event. Having finished the previous day by defeating Invictus Gaming's secondary squad, Newbee hoped to continue its impressive winning streak Monday and earn a slot in the grand finals. Invictus Gaming would give no quarter to the younger Chinese squad, though, and swiftly swept Newbee Newbee never led past the minute mark in either game and looked out of its league as a bloodthirsty Invictus Gaming bulldozed its way into the grand finals for a much-anticipated rematch with OG. With the memory of defeat at the hands of OG fresh in mind, Invictus Gaming steeled itself for a second round against the best team in the tournament. Invictus Gaming had obviously done its homework after the first tussle with OG and shook OG to its core in Game 1 by besting team green in an hour-long slugfest despite OG drafted almost everything it wanted. Every draft phase in the coming games was nearly perfect for Invictus Gaming, which denied OG its preferred heroes of Alchemist or Naga Siren in Games 2 and 3 and pushed OG to play consistently outside of its comfort zone.

The Dota 2 Asia Championships began Sunday with the best-of-two round-robin group stage. The only team to set itself apart and finish the day with a perfect record was OG in Group A. The Boston Major champion struggled a bit in the first game against Faceless when Anathan "Ana" Pham's Storm Spirit died ten times, but the rest of the team was able compensate. In Group B, the Chinese home teams took the top spots, with Newbee and Invictus Gaming each claiming a series win and draw apiece. Invictus Gaming took down Team Liquid in two very well played games, and despite losing its first game against Team NP, iG came back and completely shut NP down in Game 2 of the series.
