The new Doom contains 13 secret levels and hidden areas themed after classic Doom retro stages. Finding each of these unlocks the full level for play in the Doom main menu. These levels are each activated by finding and pulling a hidden lever, then navigating to the secret level entrance. The first Doom hidden level is located midway through the martian landscape just past this distinctive cylinder structure. The third secret level lever is hidden in the center of the main foundry chamber at the top level. The fourth secret level lever is hidden to the left of this installation just beyond the first Rune. Halfway up Agrent Energy Tower, there are two floating transports. One glows green, the other blue. Ride the blue-hued transport to the top of the stage. You'll spot the lever fairly near the beginning of the level behind stacked crates on one of the platforms. The stage eight lever is hidden behind this grate high on a cliff after the outdoor arena and platform jumping section. To reach it, perform a jump from the right side of the grate around the pipe to the right and an immediate double jump left onto the platform. The Lazarus lever is relatively easy to find, tucked into the edge of the small, distinctive red-ring room. The stage ten lever is hidden behind a panel in the large arena room with the pillar-like crushing platform that moves up and down. To open it, be sure to ride up the top of the crushing stone like an elevator, hot the switch at the top, drop back down, and then walk to this panel.

Head inside, jump up to the next door, and then kill the demon in the far room to spot an Doom map secrets Guard laying against the far wall. Such levels will be rendered as optional for those who would rather not touch them during a casual playthrough or something.

Secret maps are a fascinating and, I believe, underexamined topic in Doom mapping.
