The 65th episode of the show overall, it was first broadcast at 8. This episode is also known as " Discotheque ", disco grease.
The "Grease" that opened Tuesday night at The Times-Union Center with the first of eight performances is something of a hybrid. The affectionate but hardly uncritical send-up of the late s mores and music which ran for then-record 3, performances after opening on Broadway in is still there. That disco "Grease" is most evident in the song "Grease," which begins the show and then is reprised at the finish. There are three other songs, including the climatic "You're the One That I Want," that were written for the movie. They probably improve the show, putting more focus on the central romance between Danny and Sandy that was under-developed in the original stage musical. But they slightly dilute the satirical effect of the musical score, which consists mostly of spot-in imitations of '50s musical styles.

The Number Ones. Album Of The Week. Frankie Valli and Barry Gibb are probably the two greatest white-soul falsetto howlers in rock history. More than a decade later, Barry Gibb discovered his own upper register and applied it to disco, making kicked-in-the-dick screeches into blockbuster entertainment. Instead, Frankie Valli sings the song in what passes for a normal voice. Imagine if Al Pacino and Robert De Niro got together in — not to make an all-time-great cops-and-robbers film but to start a juggling act. Instead, Barry Gibb has written him a slick and strange aquarian disco number about, like, generational confusion. Those two movies are nothing alike; Saturday Night Fever is a deeply depressing contemporary social-realist drama, while Grease is a proudly silly period-piece musical. But apparently the same strategy worked both times, since both movies and soundtrack albums were blockbusters. It pulses to the beat of the song, which sounds nothing like any of the songs that appear later in the movie.
