There were many great characters in Death Note. After defeating L and thinking the rest of his mission to become God would be easy, Light was not expecting Near to join the game. Near was one of the characters introduced in the second half of the series and was the one to avenge his idol, L. Due to his lack of taking action and having a lot of similarities to his predecessor, Near is a very controversial character. Some fans love him while others consider him to be the worst character in the story.
