It is the title track from their third studio album of the same name and the third single from the album, released on 21 October The single release includes remixes of the song which appeared in the album Human After All: Remixes. Daft Punk had originally set to make a video, but it eventually became the feature film Daft Punk's Electroma co-written and directed by the duo. A remixed version of the song made an appearance in the video game DJ Hero 2. The song also appeared on the encore on the bonus disc of Alive , mixed along with Together 's eponymous song , a reprise of " One More Time " from Discovery and Stardust 's song " Music Sounds Better with You ". The CD featured a misprinted track list on the rear of the disc case. Human After All received mixed reviews from critics, who derided its minimalistic, repetitive nature and its six-week production time. However, the singles " Robot Rock " and " Technologic " charted in several countries, while the title track charted in France. An early press release stated that the record "[retained] their trademark Daft Punk sound, this time with a more spontaneous and direct quality to the recording". Human After All was created primarily with two guitars, two drum machines , a vocoder and one eight-track machine. At the time of Human After All' s release, Daft Punk considered it their favourite of their albums, and described it as "pure improvisation". Leading up to the release of Human After All , promotional CDs of the album were distributed with tamper-evident seals , as well as individual watermarks to identify each recipient.
When Daft Punk began a six—week recording session in the fall of , the state of electronic music was in flux. Bangalter and Homem-Christo themselves seemed less than enthralled by the whole affair, declining to talk to the press and refusing to tour.
