Making the cars for our Mario Kart Halloween costumes was the most intimidating part of the costumes for me. I thought they were going to be really complicated to make. Thankfully, I was totally wrong! These Mario Kart cars made from boxes were incredibly easy to make and would be perfect for any Mario Kart themed Halloween costume. First, you are going to measure how tall you want the base of the car to be. Ours are about inches. You are going to cut three of the 4 sides of the box off, leaving just those 5 inches of the base around the box and then one full side of the box. Next, cut off the bottom of the box so that you will be able to put your legs through it. The next step is deciding how far up the front of the car needs to be. You will be folding it back at about a 45 degree angle, so bend back the front and decide if you want to trim down the top of it or not.
Now, fold the tabs radiating around the edge of the circle toward the side where the mounting tabs are glued. Now place the front console centered on the front portion of the body. Some bending of the cardboard will be necessary but it will make the cart look less box-like, coche mario kart carton.
Turn boxes into flat sheets by cutting one section in between the flaps that create the top and bottom of the box. Draw out the pieces needed for the entire project. You will need: a top, front, back, two sides, two stabilization strips, two spoiler wings, spoiler wedge, and spoiler legs. Determine how long and wide you will want the cart to be. This determines the shape of the two sides and length of top. Make the width small enough to fit through doorways. Determine the cutout location in the top piece of the cart, for you to stand in.

Make sure the slits are no thicker than the cardboard used for the spoiler legs. Apply tape on edges and stretch a piece the width of the car to keep it together furthermore. You will be folding it back at about a 45 degree angle, so bend back the front and decide if you want to trim down the top of it or not. Try to get the top and bottom edges of the rear bumper to line up with the top and bottom edges of the side panel. On the other circle, fold all of the radiating tabs to one side of the circle. Try to get bottom of the side panel to meet up with the back panel of the seat. Start the folding process with the side panels. The back tires are larger than the front tires, so I traced two different sizes for the tires and then I got another circle that was small enough to fit in both of them that I cut out for the rims.

These instructions cover what I did but I encourage you to be creative. Looking at the underside of the kart, start with the area where the seat attaches to the body. When it seems good, fold the tabs apart and glue them down to the inside of the body. I use this method for the steering wheel to give it strength. The front bumper will probably stick down a bit further than the side panel but this will be hidden by the front wheel. Learning from Playing. You should now glue these to the underside of the body after double checking the fit of the console. Trace the pattern for the front console onto cardboard and then cut it out.
