Also, does it matter if I buy tall or short covers? I have no need to actually get taller ones just the ones I like are more readily available as tall covers. Jut wanna make sure that it wont hurt anything. And last, looks like someone tried to paint the intake GM orange and its peeling and ugly. You can use those valve covers. Thats what great about a small block chevy, all but the very oldest models share the same valve cover bolt pattern. The only other exception would be the more recent ones where the bolts go thru the center of the cover. Those of course are easy to spot though. Tall covers are made to accomodate roller rocker arms so if you like them tall then you will haver room to add rollers in the future. I run tall ones on my '66 and they do get pretty darn close to the firewall recess but they fit.
