Cheiracanthium
Generic-looking wandering spider, cheiracanthium, most often dull yellow in color although abdomen can vary depending upon the color cheiracanthium recently eaten prey.
Cheiracanthium , commonly called yellow sac spiders , is a genus of araneomorph spiders in the family Cheiracanthiidae , and was first described by Carl Ludwig Koch in Both sexes range in size from 5 to 10 millimetres 0. They are unique among common house spiders because their tarsi do not point either outward, like members of Tegenaria , or inward, like members of Araneus , making them easier to identify. Though they are beneficial predators in agricultural fields, they are also known to be mildly venomous to humans. Painful bites may be incurred from species such as C. A theory that these spiders were attracted to the smell of gasoline was involved in a series of consumer vehicle callbacks in which spiderwebs had blocked fuel lines, but it has since been disproven by a study which found that the juvenile yellow sac spiders were attracted to the hose material itself. The only known species in the New World are C.

Cheiracanthium mildei, the northern yellow sac spider is one of the most common spiders in Northeastern America. However, it can be found throughout the entire USA. The yellow sac spider can be identified by its greenish, yellowish color. During the daytime these spiders often hide in a small blanket of web under leaves and wood, but will often make their way into homes and hide in corners or under window sills. The abdomens are yellow to tan and often have a green tinge to the coloring. There is a darker stripe that runs lengthwise about halfway down the abdomen. The tips of their legs are often darker and the face of the cephalothorax is always darker. Yellow sac spiders have eight eyes. The eyes are all the same size and form four pairs of two eyes each. The Sac Spiders do not spin webs to catch prey.

The Yellow Sac Spider is one of a group of spiders in North America whose bites are generally considered to be medically significant. The Yellow Sac Spider is very common in most of the United States and is the cause of a lot of spider bites and other unwanted encounters. Yellow Sac Spiders are light yellow to pale yellowish green, sometimes with a orange-brown stripe on top of the abdomen. The cephalothorax fused head and thorax of the Yellow Sac Spider is orange brown to reddish and the abdomen is pale yellow to light grey. Males are more slender, with a slightly larger leg span. The first pair of legs is longer than the fourth. Yellow Sac Spiders have eight similarly-sized dark eyes arranged in two horizontal rows. Yellow Sac Spiders take shelter in flattened silk tubes during the day and move about to hunt during the night. Yellow Sac Spiders often live in houses and can frequently be found crawling upon walls or other vertical surfaces. Yellow Sac Spiders construct a silken tube or sac in a protected area, such as within a leaf, under landscape timbers or logs, or at the junction of a wall and ceiling and they use this sac as their daytime retreat.
