For a passenger, aviation law is a concept that receives little thought during a flight. To a pilot, however, aviation cfr part 91 are the rules by which they operate to ensure the highest level of safety. Different restrictions apply to different types of flights, and they can often create confusion.

A wide variety of activities are regulated, such as aircraft design and maintenance, typical airline flights, pilot training activities, hot-air ballooning , lighter-than-air aircraft , man-made structure heights, obstruction lighting and marking, model rocket launches, commercial space operations, model aircraft operations, Unmanned Aircraft Systems UAS and kite flying. The rules are designed to promote safe aviation , protecting pilots, flight attendants, passengers and the general public from unnecessary risk. However, another set of regulations Title 48 is titled "Federal Acquisitions Regulations", and this has led to confusion with the use of the acronym "FAR". FAA Order Title 14 is the principal set of rules and regulations sometimes called administrative law issued by the Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration , federal agencies of the United States which oversee Aeronautics and Space.

If you are a pilot, the part under which you operate and your ops specs are your bread and butter, some parts of which you should know by heart.

Air-traffic control notifies operators of RVSM airspace by providing route planning information. Aircraft within a group of aircraft, approved as a group by the Administrator, in which each of the aircraft satisfy each of the following:. The same static source error correction is incorporated in each aircraft of the group. An aircraft that is approved for RVSM operations as an individual aircraft. RVSM Flight envelope. An RVSM flight envelope includes the range of Mach number, weight divided by atmospheric pressure ratio, and altitudes over which an aircraft is approved to be operated in cruising flight within RVSM airspace. RVSM flight envelopes are defined as follows:. The package must consist of at least the following:.

Many well-known types of light airplane, like the Cessna and Piper Cherokee are certified to these older standards, even though they remained in production after In the FAA proposed a new system of performance-based airworthiness standards instead of prescriptive design requirements. These are generally large airlines, regional air carriers, and all cargo operators. Part 63 is certification for flight crewmembers other than pilots; such as flight engineers and flight navigators. Lapayowker, P. March 14, Similar Articles. They are also available to other high-profile figures such as presidential and vice-presidential candidates though not all do so, as Senator John Kerry , who did not ask for any TFR during the election. Examples of rotorcraft certified in this part are the Robinson R44, Schweizer and the Bell Part operator rules govern commercial aircraft.

Federal Aviation Administration. Presidential TFRs are nearly 70 miles in diameter, and frequently close off not only the airport Air Force One is using but nearby airports as well. This part contains airworthiness standards for airplanes in the transport category. Under part 91, however, they are free to do so. These regulations define on-demand, unscheduled air service for passengers or freight. Part operator rules govern commercial aircraft. These are generally large airlines, regional air carriers, and all cargo operators. Then, when an aspect of part is met such as a paying passenger onboard , their ops spec for part is enforced. General aviation flights are conducted under this part. Rotorcraft with more than 20, lb 9, kg maximum takeoff weight must be certified to additional Category A standards defined in this part. These parts do not distinguish type of aircraft, but rather type of activity done with the aircraft.
