Beta Censoring is a simple ish app for on-demand detection and censoring of NSFW images, designed especially for betas. Beta Censoring itself is something of a middleman. Under all the covers, Beta Censoring uses the NudeNet AI model to classify images on demand then returns censored versions of the same images. Essentially, something requests an image to be censored more on the something below , Beta Censoring will load the image, run some prep work then run it through the open-source NudeNet model to detect specific body parts or features. Then, it will censor the image according to the results from the AI and the supplied preferences and return a censored version of the original image. Beta Protection is designed from the ground up to be a flexible bells-and-whistles-included solution for classifying and censoring images from anywhere. That being said, the most common use case is in conjunction with the Beta Protection Chrome extension.

Based on my current testing numbers, a second low-resolution low-framerate GIF would take around 5 minutes to be censored. The runtime we use ONNX has support for multiple forms of acceleration, censored for betas I simply don't have the right combination of OS and hardware to test it.

In it's current form, you don't really use Beta Censoring in the traditional sense. You leave it running and other apps we call them 'clients' can interact with it, requesting images to be censored. That does mean that you need to leave it running though, as clients will need to contact the running server to request censoring. If you're a more advanced user, Beta Censoring can be configured as a Windows Service or Systemd service to have the server running, but not visible. There is a simple web interface available to check on the status of a running Beta Censoring server though. At present, this status panel is just to check on your server details, performance and configuration though more features are planned. At this time, the only known Beta Censoring client is Beta Protection open in new window , the browser extension for live censoring images while you browse. Beta Censoring can accept any client though, and if you're interested in integrating it with other tools or building your own client, the developer documentation includes more details. There's a whole comparison for Beta Safety available here , but this page is intended to deliver a brief summary of how Beta Protection and Beta Suite compare. To be clear, neither option is inherenly better than the other. Beta Suite is a great bit of software and if it meets your needs, use it! This won't try and change your mind, just give you an idea of where each software's strengths lie. The most notable difference between the two that we'll just call Protection and Suite from here out is in their scope: Protection is a censoring extension for the browser , while Suite is intended as a system-wide censoring capability. Suite can be set up to censor your whole screen in real-time and that's something that Protection was never designed for and will never support. Instead, Protection focusses on doing in-browser censoring while you browse the web as well as possible. Protection thanks largely to its reduced scope will censor notably slower than Suite will, but has a fraction of the hardware requirements.
