Rampant Celtic transported Brendan Rodgers back to his first spell in charge as a stunning first-half display helped them thrash Dundee in the Scottish Premiership. Celtic eased off somewhat after the break, but year-old substitute Daniel Kelly scored his first senior goal to add further gloss to the scoreline before Michael Mellon scored a late consolation for the visitors after they had Finlay Robertson sent off. Celtic were on course to reclaim top spot when Kilmarnock led Rangers at the interval, but the Ibrox side fought back to win at Rugby Park, keeping Rodgers' side two points adrift in second, while Dundee remain sixth. Celtic's first-half display against Motherwell on Sunday was well below the levels Rodgers would expect, but they raced out of the blocks here in devastating fashion. Carter-Vickers has been a big miss through injury at times this season, and made his mark on his return to the side, climbing highest to head home O'Riley's free-kick and open the floodgates. Idah glanced Alistair Johnston's cross past goalkeeper Trevor Carson to double the lead and O'Riley was then afforded acres of space to cushion a header into the bottom corner and make it three. Maeda got in on the action, bending a delightful left-footed shot into the far corner after cutting inside as Dundee capitulated at the back.

Celtic scored twice in stoppage time as a comeback victory at Motherwell moved them back to two points behind Rangers in the Premiership title race. Adam Idah completed a double on 94 minutes, adding to his smart header at the start of the second half. Fellow substitute Luis Palma added a tap-in while the visiting fans were still celebrating that late reprieve. Blair Spittal had curled in a fantastic shot at the end of a first half the hosts had much the better of. The champions, who had drawn two of their three previous league outings, looked spooked during that period but found some much-needed urgency to dominate the second half. And Idah was the hero, replacing Kyogo Furuhashi at the interval and giving Celtic a real presence up front. The on-loan Norwich striker levelled the game when rising well to steer in a Greg Taylor cross. Both he and Daizen Maeda went close with further headers as the champions laid siege to the home penalty area and that pressure finally paid when the year-old met an Alistair Johnston pass to slot low into the corner. Yang Hyun-Jun, who also helped liven up Celtic from the bench, then teed up Palma for the simplest of finishes. Motherwell who remain ninth, four points ahead of Ross County in the play-off place, were running on fumes in the closing stages, dealing with an onslaught. The home side played with confidence in the first half, epitomised by the lovely footwork from teenager Lennon Miller to set up Spittal's cracking finish from the edge of the penalty area. Theo Bair had an early effort ruled out for offside and Miller was denied by a good Joe Hart save at as they found gaps in a Celtic backline that has gone four matches without a clean sheet.

Hearts got the win they "deserved" at Celtic, said head coach Steven Naismith, as his side ended a long wait for victory at the home of the Scottish Premiership leaders. Naismith's side stunned the champions to secure a first away win over Celtic since and consign them to successive league defeats. Unmarked Lawrence Shankland headed Hearts in front from a corner and Stephen Kingsley's stunning free-kick doubled the lead before half-time. Luis Palma had Celtic's best opportunity but was foiled by Kingsley's last-ditch block. Leaders Celtic remain five points above Rangers, who have two games in hand, while Hearts, in third, move within 11 points of the Ibrox team. It's just another step in what we hope will be a successful run for the club.
Champions Celtic held off a spirited Aberdeen to make it two wins out of two in the Scottish Premiership. Liel Abada scored the visitors' opener after VAR overturned an offside decision but Bojan Miovski levelled from close range. Kyogo Furuhashi pounced on a dreadful defensive lapse by Nicky Devlin to fire Celtic back in front and Matt O'Riley sealed victory late on. Aberdeen threatened through Leighton Clarkson's shot wide at and remain on one point after two games. Celtic had come close through Kyogo's chip wide by the time Abada converted Daizen Maeda's header off O'Riley's free-kick. Replays showed Abada had been played onside by Dante Polvara. Graeme Shinnie headed over and Ryan Duncan's shot suffered the same fate as the Dons pressed, but Luis 'Duk' Lopes' pace outstripped Cameron Carter-Vickers as he latched on to Duncan's pass to set up Miovski for a tap in. Parity was short lived, though, as Devlin headed back towards Aberdeen's goal, where Kyogo was all on his own to strike. Goalkeeper Kelle Roos then denied Abada and O'Riley from a free-kick to keep the home side in the game, just.

Celtic moved seven points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after beating Kilmarnock with a score line that "didn't reflect the dominance in the game". With second-place St Mirren playing struggling Rangers on Sunday, the leaders knew they could extend the gap going into the international break and shake off the disappointment of the late midweek loss to Lazio. And they did that with one of their strongest domestic displays of the season, moving to a tally of 22 points from 24 and avenging their Viaplay Cup defeat by Kilmarnock, who remain four points above bottom place. Reo Hatate waltzed through the visitors' defence to slip a shot past Will Dennis for the opener and Luis Palma doubled the advantage with a sweet strike following Joe Wright's error.
