On this Saturday afternoon on 31st July in the Sky Blues had a special home game at Highfield Road, their only pre-season game at home. Honour was paid at this game to a well loved and respected former player of both clubs, Cyrille Regis as CCFC granted him a testimonial. The testimonial perhaps came surprisingly late as he had left City eight years previously in October for Aston Villa after pulling on the Sky Blue shirt times 61 goals. He was a true Midland superstar having also played for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of his illustrious career which included five England caps and an F. Cup Winners medal in with City! This was not the last pre-season game for the Sky Blues, they lost by the only goal of the game at Hereford United three days later before starting what would be their penultimate season in the top flight.
