Astute readers may have noticed that my collection of traditionally styled fixed-lens rangefinders shrank from 2 to 0 a couple months ago—first, the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s departed the stable when I realized I had outgrown its chonky charms, then the Olympus 35RD decided to develop Sticky Shutter Syndrome again, and I was leery about repairing it. The hunt was on for another, something that could combine the things I like about the Hi-Matic 7s and 35 RD. Could I have found something comparable in size to the 35 RD but featuring a Rokkor lens and Minolta mechanics? Alas, it was not to be. Unfortunately they both had shutter issues, so both were returned. I hated the dinky feeling winding and release on the 35 RD. Because while I was doing this futile search, a perfectly functional and pretty cool compact fixed-lens rangefinder fell into my hands— for free.
